Government Affairs at UofL
As a publicly-funded institution of higher education, the University of Louisville receives much of its operating revenue from local, state or federal government entities using taxpayer money. The university is also beholden to laws, statutes and executive orders, which mandate institutional compliance in areas such as institutional funding, financial aid, university governance, curriculum and civil rights.
The UofL Office of Government Affairs maintains positive and productive relationships with our elected officials to be sure we remain in compliance with legal requirements and to advocate for the university's strategic priorities. As such, the Office of Government Affairs:
- Shapes and advances the university’s interests by advocating for institutional priorities at every level of government.
- Leads strategic communication with policymakers through intentional outreach that positions the university as a trusted partner and resource.
- Anticipates and analyzes legislative and regulatory developments in Washington, D.C., and Frankfort, Kentucky, to inform strategy and guide decision-making.
- Cultivates long-term relationships with elected officials, government agencies and public-sector partners to strengthen collaboration.
- Facilitates visits and connections between policymakers and university faculty, staff and students.
- Promotes the university’s impact in workforce development, research and innovation, public service, and healthcare.
