Alyssa Mehnert

Alyssa Mehnert has worked extensively in the jazz, gospel and latin idioms as a trombonist and composer/arranger. She has performed with a multitude of musicians, and has written music for artists such as Peter Erskine, Robert Hurst and Bobby Sanabria. Alyssa is a commissioned composer and has written works for jazz ensembles at Indiana University, Butler University, Eastman School of Music and Miami University of Ohio. She served as adjunct professor of music at Northern Kentucky University from 2010 through 2013. She was conductor of Jazz Ensemble II and lectured at Butler University during the 2012-13 school year.

Alyssa is currently pursuing an MM-PhD in Musicology at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. She received her Masters of Music – Jazz Studies from Indiana University, where she studied with Dr. David Baker, Brent Wallarab, and Dee Stewart. She has also studied with pianist, composer and educator Bill Dobbins at the Eastman School of Music. Alyssa received her Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies – Trombone in 2007 from the University of Cincinnati – College Conservatory of Music.
