Military-Connected Tuition Rates

Military Tuition Rate 

The University of Louisville proudly offers a $250 Per Credit Hour to all Active-Duty, National Guard, and Reserve Component Service Members who are eligible for Department of Defense Title X Tuition Assistance funds. This tuition rate is applicable to all undergraduate and most graduate programs.

To have this Tuition Rate applied, students need to send a copy of their Orders (greater than 180 days) or a screenshot of their Military Education Portal showing that they are eligible to receive Federal (Title X) Tuition Assistance to our Fort Knox Staff at miltuition@louisville.edu no later than the tuition due date during the semester.

  • This rate does not apply to fixed-cost programs or to the professional schools; Medical, Dental, Law.
  • Although the MBA program is a bundled tuition rate program, Active-Duty and qualifying members of the Reserves and National Guard qualify for a reduced rate that equates to $500 per credit hour.
  • Veterans and dependents are not eligible for the military tuition rate. We offer a Salute to Service Scholarship which awards, $1,500 scholarships to veterans or dependents in fall and spring terms, and $500 scholarships in summer term. Section 702 - Post 9/11 Eligibility for In-State Residency Status for Tuition

Enacted by Congress as of 7/1/2015. State of Kentucky’s application of Section 702 http://www.lrc.ky.gov/kar/013/002/045.htm

Section 7, (4)

(4) A person eligible for benefits under the federal Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, 38 U.S.C. 3301-3325, or any other educational benefits provided under Title 38 of the United States Code shall be entitled to Kentucky resident status for purposes of tuition charged at state-supported institutions.

To have in-state Residency status applied through Section 702, students need to email a copy of their Post 9/11 Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to miltuition@louisville.edu prior to the semester tuition deadline.


Military-Connected Fee Waivers

Application Fee Waiver & Priority Course Registration

Students who are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States and Veterans (any branch, any component) are eligible to receive an application fee waiver.  

For undergraduate applications , the application fee is automatically waived when the student selects their branch of service and their component on the application in SLATE. For graduate applicants, you'll be asked to provide a source document (Current Orders, DD214, etc). Students who are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States (any branch, any component) are eligible for Priority Course Registration, meaning you will get to choose your classes at an earlier date than the general student population.

Meal Plan Fee Waiver

All students living on campus must have either a traditional or apartment meal plan. All full time undergraduate, commuter students who do not live in university housing, and are enrolled in at least 9 hours on campus, will incur a minimum meal plan charge of ($300). A waiver is available for Military-Connected Students* not living on campus.

*Currently serving members of the U.S. Armed Forces (Active-Duty, Coast Guard, Reserve and National Guard), students using VA Education benefits, and ROTC cadets (Prior Service and Green to Gold only).

Veterans not using VA Education Benefits

Submit a copy of Department of Defense Form 214.

Currently serving member of U.S. Armed Forces (Active-Duty, Coast Guard, Reserve and National Guard)

Submit your Active-Duty orders, a copy of your Federal (Title 10) Tuition Assistance Form, or a copy of your military identification card (ID).

ROTC Cadets (prior service)

Submit copy of your Department of Defense Form 214.

ROTC Cadets (Green to Gold)

See section above about currently serving members of the Armed Forces.

Campus Health Fee Waiver

All students enrolled in at least 6 hours on-campus will be charged $150 for the Primary Health Care Fee. These fees are not covered by the Post 9/11 G I Bill®. Military-Connected Students* with healthcare through other means can request the Primary Health Care Fee be waived.

*Currently serving members of the U.S. Armed Forces (Active-Duty, Coast Guard, Reserve and National Guard), students using VA Education benefits, and ROTC cadets (Prior Service and Green to Gold only).

Proof of Insurance

For the campus health fee waiver to be approved, you must submit a copy of your proof of insurance to stuins@louisville.edu

  1. Proof of Insurance for Active-Duty members, members of the National Guard, and members of the Reserves is a copy of their valid United States Uniform Services identification card (ID Card).
  2. Proof of Insurance for veterans and dependents is a copy of the front and back of their ID card indicating they are eligible for “Medical” Direct: YES.
  3. If you have other insurance, submit copy of front and back of your insurance card.
  4. If Primary Health Care has been accessed the fee cannot be waived/removed.

Waiver Procedure

  1. Sign into ULINK (ulink.louisville.edu)
  2. On the Student Homepage, select "Financial Account."
  3. Select "Primary Care Health Fee Waiver" on the left NavBar.
  4. Follow the instructions for submitting the waiver.

Deadline to waive the fee is 30 days from the first day of class. The waiver is valid for up to one academic year and must be resubmitted each fall.

Seven to ten business days after the waiver has been requested and applicable documents submitted, the $150 charge should come off your tuition. If it does not, contact Campus Health at stuins@louisville.edu

 

Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Who do I contact at UofL for questions about TA?

UofL’s Ft. Knox Campus staff processes TA requests and can be reached at miltuition@louisville.edu or (502) 852-6444. They are UofL’s POC for service members using TA. They are not Military Education Counselors or University Academic Advisors.

What is the process to use TA at UofL?

Students should register for any classes that they wish to take through ULINK, then request TA for each of those classes through their Branch of Services’ Education Portal. Once a student has an approved TA Form(s), they need to email the approved form(s) to our Fort Knox Staff at miltuition@louisville.edu for processing and to the Bursar’s Office at bursar3p@louisville.edu for invoicing.

Kentucky National Guard (KYNG) State Tuition Assistance (STA)

The deadlines for Kentucky National Guard STA requests are October 1 (Spring semester) and April 1 (Fall).

  1. TA will NOT pay the additional amount charged for online courses.
  2. 100% paid at any state support university/college not including fees

Veteran's Affairs (VA) Education Benefits

 

GI Bill

The GI Bill is a Department of Veterans Affairs education entitlement earned by members of the Active Duty, Selected Reserve and National Guard Armed Forces and their families. The benefit is designed to help service members and eligible veterans, cover the costs associated with pursuing an education or training. The GI Bill has several programs, and each is administrated differently, depending on a person's eligibility and duty status. Dependents

Instructions for dependents of veterans and active-duty military using the Post 9/11 GI Bill® education benefit:

  • The Post 9/11 GI Bill allows service members to transfer unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The Department of Defense determines whether benefits can be transferred. Click here for details.
  • Eligible dependents include spouse; one or more of the individual’s children; any combination of spouse or child; a family member must be enrolled in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) and be eligible for benefits, at the time of transfer.
  • Upon approval, family members may apply to use transferred benefits with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by completing VA Form 22-1990e, which can be accessed here at vets.gov.
  • Dependents may not use the benefit until they have attained a secondary school diploma (or equivalency certificate) or reached 18 years of age. 
  • Approximately 6-8 weeks after applying for benefit transfer, eligible dependents will receive a Certificate of Eligibility Letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs. This Certificate is required by the University of Louisville to process your benefits.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs will pay the tuition and fees directly to the University of Louisville based on the veteran’s calculated percentage of eligibility.
  • The spouse of an active-duty member is not eligible to receive the Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA). Students

Monthly Housing Allowance

Students attending more than half-time will receive a monthly housing stipend based on their percentage of eligibility. Monthly housing stipends are paid by the VA one month following the earned benefit. (Ex: September housing benefit will be paid on October 1).

Kentucky State Tuition Waivers

Kentucky state tuition waiver is an education benefit provided by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in recognition of military service of certain Kentucky veterans. It is administered by the Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs (KDVA).

The waiver permits student to attend any two-year, four-year, or vocational technical schools that are operated and funded by the Kentucky Department of Education. The state waiver is provided for children, stepchildren, adopted children, spouses, and un-remarried widows & widowers.

Additional qualifying factors, the veteran must have:

  1. 100% service-connected disabled.
  2. Died on active duty.
  3. Died as a direct result of a service-connected disability as determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  4. Totally disabled (non-service connected) with wartime service as deemed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense.
  5. Is deceased and lived in KY at time of death and served during a wartime period

UofL Military Program Integrity Policy

The UofL Military Program Integrity Policy was established to help ensure compliance with program integrity rules consistent with the regulations issued by the Department of Education (34 CFR 668.71 – 668.75, 668.18 and 668.14) and the requirements outlined in the Department of Defense (DoD) Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) related to misrepresentation, recruitment, payment of incentive compensation, and tuition assistance. This policy will provide efforts to eliminate unfair, deceptive, and abusive marketing aimed at Service Members. Its purpose is to also strengthen compliance with both Department of Education and Department of Defense policies and requirements regarding withdrawals and Readmission requirements for Service Members.
