Sixty years ago this summer, Russell Kirk's "The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Eliot" was published. Cataloguing the thoughts of British and American men as eminent conservatives, Kirk offered a clear understanding of conservative principles. The book received immediate acclaim, and Kirk soon became known as the so-called father of American conservatism.
In this free, public McConnell Center lecture, Lee Cheek, PhD, chair of the social sciences department and professor of political science at East Georgia State College, will discuss the continuing relevance of Kirk and his popular publication.
This discussion marks the first of four events in the McConnell Center's 2013 "Milestones of the 20th Century: Democracy in America" public lecture series.
