University of Louisville political science professor and McConnell Center Fellow Shiping Hua, PhD, is shaping the world of international relations and political science one book at a time.

Hua is currently the general editor for “Contemporary World’s Classics: Political Science Series,” published by Renmin University of China Press.  At present, the series consists of 22 books, which Hua has translated from English to Chinese. These translations mark the first attempt to make Western political science books readily accessible to Chinese readers. Books in the series include Modern Political Analysis by Robert Dahl, Containing Nationalism by Michael Hechter, and The State of Democratic Theory by Ian Shapiro, among others.

“Dr. Hua's series is bringing some of the most important social science research of the West to Chinese scholars and students,” said Gary Gregg, Director of the McConnell Center. “These texts will help the people of China better understand the people, institutions, and politics that animate modern liberal democracies. The results will be significant and long-term.”

Hua also serves as the director for the Asian Studies Program at UofL and accompanies McConnell Scholars to China every summer.
