McConnell Center launches 2023-2024 Teacher Scholars application

Louisville, Ky. (July 5, 2023) - The application for the 2023-2024 Teacher Scholars Program is now open. 

The McConnell Center's Teacher Scholars Program is a hybrid-based professional learning and networking opportunity at the University of Louisville for K-12 Kentucky teachers. The program, which runs through the academic year, features lectures and private discussions with experts in the fields of United States history, government, politics, and leadership. Teacher Scholars receive at least 20 professional development hours, free reading and study materials, all-expenses-paid weekend conferences, a culminating summer travel experience, and more. 

Selected Teacher Scholars will spend this academic year focusing on Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, studying the foundations of the American political order and looking forward to the future of the United States.

The McConnell Center began the non-profit, non-partisan Civic Education Program in 2005 to help Kentucky citizens develop a better understanding of the U.S. Constitution and American history and to encourage open and free discussion of perennial concerns that inform contemporary politics. The McConnell Center conducts programs for Kentucky's educators, students (K-12 and college), and the general public focused on developing a strong knowledge of U.S. history and fostering creative thinking about the possibilities and problems of citizenship in the 21st century.
