What do you hope to gain through your experience teaching English in Morocco and how did language classes at UofL prepare you for this experience?
I am overjoyed to be a recipient of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Grant in Morocco for the academic year of 2021 to 2022. Although I am awaiting word on my city placement, I am optimistic about all prospects as I have previously traveled to (and loved) nine Moroccan cities. Through this experience, I hope to improve my Arabic language skills and cultural literacy while strengthening Moroccan students’ thirst for English fluency. Without UofL’s Arabic department, I would never have known how much beauty exists beyond US borders. My courses help me accumulate scholarships to study abroad during my undergraduate years, and they pushed me to understand an unfamiliar world – a world of mint tea, deserts, couscous, bright colors, and hospitality: Morocco. I owe every ounce of my gratitude to professors Khaldoun and Shereen for their support, enriching assignments, and encouragement.
