Our Mission

The Department of Classical and Modern Languages empowers diverse, socially just, and inclusive communities within UofL and beyond through our language-related teaching, scholarship, campus activities, community outreach, and service. Our students, staff, and faculty work together, primarily through shared and exchanged languages, to value similarities and celebrate differences between themselves and others. We critically engage with language and culture to co-create knowledge and opportunities for self-expression and community support. We in CML implement these practices to better equip ourselves to serve and advocate for people who have been historically disenfranchised.
