Why America Needs Revision with Kiese Laymon
Why America Needs Revision with Kiese Laymon
Notice: The 2023 Anne Braden Institute Memorial Lecture planned for the evening of April 18th with Kiese Laymon is cancelled.
Our lecturer, Kiese Laymon, has experienced health challenges that do not allow him ability to travel to Louisville or to present virtually at this time. We wish Kiese the rest and support he needs for recovery, as we thank him for his powerful writing and generation-shaping words. Looking ahead, we hope that you will join us for a new 2024 Anne Braden Memorial Lecture this fall, along with celebrations for the centennial of Anne Braden’s birth. Please watch for more information from us as we plan events to celebrate Anne’s life, to honor her legacy and that of the many movements and activists she worked alongside, and to lift up the critical movement work that continues today.
Kiese Laymon is the Libbie Shearn Moody Professor of English and Creative Writing at Rice University. He is also a 2022 recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship, known as the "Genius Grant", and the founder of “The Catherine Coleman Literary Arts and Justice Initiative,” a program based out of the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State University. He has authored three literary works, Heavy, Long Division, and How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America. Visit his website to learn more: https://www.kieselaymon.com/
