- How do I register for orientation?
If you are approved to attend the July freshman orientation session and have not registered for a previous session you can pay for the orientation registration fee the morning of the July orientation. We will accept cash or check at that time.
- Can I register for orientation over the phone?
No, cash or check will be accepted at regitration the morning of the Freshman July orientation session.
- What business will I take care of during orientation?
You will meet with an academic adviser, register for classes, get your Student ID.
- Do I have to attend orientation?
Yes, orientation is mandatory for all degree seeking students.
- What do I have to bring to orientation? (freshmen only)

- Where do I park?
Free parking is available only in the main entrance of the Floyd St. Parking Garage on the first morning of your session. The gate will be lifted at 7 a.m. If you park elsewhere, we cannot refund any fee or ticket assessed for alternate parking choices. DO NOT PARK ON THE PAY/VISITOR SIDE OF THE LOT.
- What should I wear?
Dress is casual. We will be indoors and outdoors; don’t forget to bring an umbrella if rain is in the forecast! Some rooms are cooler than others, so dress accordingly.
- Do my parents have to come?
We offer an optional Family Orientation ($40 per participant) separate from Freshman Orientation. You can meet up during lunch and dinner.
- I cannot attend any of the session dates. Are there other options?
No. You must attend a listed session date.
- Am I required to stay on campus during the entire program?
Yes. All components of the program are mandatory. If you leave at anytime during the program you will not be able to register for classes.
- What do I do if I have to work?
Please make arrangements with your employer, we can provide documentation that you attended or plan to attend orientation.
- When will I be finished?
You should be done by 5 p.m.
- Can I bring a friend or significant other to orientation?
Family members may register for family orientation. Family Orientation is $40 per participant. (The Family Orientation program is separate at times from students.)
- What if I want to change my major/session?
It is possible that your orientation date will need to be changed as there are limits on the number of majors per session.To change your major, please click here. To change your orientation session, please click here. The first session change request is free. Any additional session change requests will be charged a $25 fee before processed.
- Can my parents come with me to my advising session?
No, you will meet with professional staff to ensure that you make an appropriate schedule. Schedules can be discussed with families at meals.
- What do I do about AP classes?
Results from some AP exams won’t be available until after orientation. Your academic adviser will help you plan an appropriate schedule. Contact your adviser after orientation upon receipt of your scores if any changes are necessary.
- Are there any financial aid resources you can offer?

- I don't know if I need to take a placement test.
Detailed information about placement tests is available on the Testing Services website. Look to the menu on the left for specific test information.
- Are there any special directions for Engineering students?
First, please fill out our Engineering Intake Form to help your advisers at orientation. Also, ALL entering Engineering students MUST complete the algebra readiness assessment. Directions are available: louisville.edu/speed/academics/algebraReadinessExam or view PDF instructions. If you have technical issues accessing the Algebra Readiness Exam through MyMathTest, contact Pearson's technical support. If a technical issue prevented you from completing the Algebra Readiness Exam then email Dr. Hieb at firstname.lastname@example.org with "Speed ARE" in the subject line. If you have questions related to your score please wait until orientation. The Speed advisers will provide you with more information and if you have further questions you can speak with them at that time.
