Our MissionOur program is offered through the Health Sciences Center Office of Health Equity and Engagement and is committed to preparing physicians to serve the healthcare community at large and address healthcare disparities. Kentucky has 120 counties, with over 80 designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). Many of these counties lack access to hospitals or specialists, requiring residents to travel long distances for care. This is a national issue—rural and urban areas across the U.S. need more primary care physicians and specialists. Our program is part of a nationwide effort to improve access to care by developing competitive, compassionate medical school applicants who can serve where they are needed most when they become physicians. Our PurposeMedical schools seek applicants who have completed pre-med requirements, achieved strong academic records and MCAT scores, gained clinical experience, demonstrated compassion through service, and presented themselves well in interviews with excellent recommendations. Without guidance, many students become discouraged or lost. Our program offers a supportive navigation system to help you stay on track throughout your pre-med journey, whether you’re just starting or trying again with renewed focus. |
