Regardless of your current activity and fitness level, the Fitness Challenge can help motivate you to improve.

The Fitness Challenge shows you how to make a commitment to staying active. The program helps you set realistic goals to encourage fitness for a lifetime. The rules are simple, and you can choose from all kinds of activities. The Fitness Challenge is about staying active - not sitting in front of a computer. We want you to get out and find something fun to do and we'll still be here when you're done.

Why participate in the Fitness Challenge?

Accepting the Fitness Challenge is the first step towards being more active. You will find even more tools to help you reach your fitness goals - whether you're looking for new ways to measure your progress or simply a little extra inspiration.

Play 12 Weeks...and Make it Part of your Lifestyle!

Fitness Challenge rules are designed to motivate you to follow the 2008 physical activity guidelines for America, for 12 weeks. From walking to mountain climbing, the range of workout choices accommodates any lifestyle.  Fitness is about improving endurance, flexibility, and strength through regular physical activity. That even includes things like walking the dog or cleaning the garage.

For substantial health benefits, adults should do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of moderate-intensity, or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Aerobic activity should be performed in episodes of at least 10 minutes, and preferably, it should be spread throughout the week.

Adults should also do muscle-strengthening activities that are moderate or high intensity and involve all major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week, as these activities provide additional health benefits.

The Fitness Challenge challenges you to see just how high you can raise your activity level. The guidelines are simple. You can choose from a variety of activities. We'll give you a personal activity log to help track your progress along the way. Fitness is about setting realistic goals. That's where the Fitness Challenge can help - with your own personal activity log.
