Professional Experience

Acting CEO, University of Louisville Physicians February 2016 – Present
Senior Executive Leader of the largest multi-specialty physician practice in Louisville, Kentucky with more than 78 sub-specialties, 1,200 dedicated staff professionals, and more than 700 primary care and specialty physicians. Works closely and collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the chairs of clinical divisions, and their faculty members to manage a complex and integrated practice plan while implementing the future strategic direction of ULP, whereas enhancing economic viability in a very competitive marketplace.

Associate Dean, Faculty Development (Part-time) July 2015 – Present
Senior faculty member responsible for creation of a School of Medicine-wide program for faculty development and chairing new Faculty Development committee. The initial focus of this role has been to create programs to enhance our faculty’s ability to teach in large group settings, create a peer coaching program, and to develop a new leadership development curriculum.

Sabbatical, Medical Education Innovation January 2015 – July 2015
Visited eight medical schools in the U.S. at the forefront of medical education innovation. These included four schools that had received AMA Award for Accelerating Change in Medical Education in 2013: (Vanderbilt University, University of California at San Francisco, Oregon Health Sciences Center, East Carolina University), The Lerner College of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University, and two new medical schools (Hofstra North Shore-Long Island Jewish School of Medicine, the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University).

Chairman, Department of Pediatrics 2006 – 2016
Provide oversight of all administrative functions of an academic pediatric department with 200 faculty, approximately 100 residents and fellows, over 350 support staff, budget of $89 million in 2016.

Chairman of the Board, University Child Health Specialist, Inc. 2004 – 2014
UCHS served as the principal clinical arm of the UofL Department of Pediatrics, and was closed as the Department of Pediatrics entered into University of Louisville Physicians (ULP), the newly created clinical practice entity for the School of Medicine.

  • Oversight of the clinical operation of the Department of Pediatrics, increasing annual clinical revenue for physician services from $12 million (2004-05) to $22 million (2011-12)
  • Coordination the transition and integration of six subspecialty professional service corporations into the foundation in preparation for School of Medicine wide practice integration into University of Louisville Physicians
  • Opening two new primary care practice sites (Home of the Innocents Campus and Campbellsville, KY)
  • Oversight of the foundation endowment to assure its ability to support clinical, educational and research activities of the Department of Pediatrics
    An organization made up of more than 750 dedicated faculty physicians and mid-level providers who work together to care for patients across the age spectrum.

Chairman of the Board, University Physicians Associates, Inc. (UPA) 2007 – 2011
An organization that oversaw the UofL School of Medicine’s practice association, coordinated single point contracting to insurance companies, the UofL Primary Care Center license, was a sponsor of the Passport Health Plan, served as the Master Lease Holder of the UofL practice building (HCOC), and is a Class A Subscriber of the KMRRRG (UofL captive malpractice insurance company).
