Office of Dental Research

Welcome to the Office of Research at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD).  This Office coordinates all research that is being carried out at ULSD and sponsors several programs that facilitate student participation in research.  Currently, the Department of Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases is the main basic science research group in the School of Dentistry.  In addition, several other departments in the school are involved in clinical research.  I invite you to learn more about research at ULSD, the Research Faculty, and the Academic Programs that are offered at ULSD by exploring the links on this page.

Department of Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases

This department conducts basic research in the areas of host-pathogen interactions, microbial biofilms and the innate immune response to infection.  The impact of these processes on systemic health is also a focus of the department.

Division of Craniofacial Development and Anomalies

Research activities in this division focus on molecular analyses of gene function in the embryo and are designed to examine the causes of orofacial clefts. Specific studies focus on genetic and environmental (cigarette smoke-induced) perturbations of the epigenome as underlying causative factors in orofacial clefting.
