Our Campus Partners:

Ali Institute

Anne Braden Institute

The Anne Braden Institute bridges the gap between academic research and social justice community advocates who might use that research.  The Institute seeks to advance understanding of the legacy of the southern civil rights movement and to honor the vision of longtime Louisville racial justice organizer and journalist Anne Braden, whose outlook was global, but whose activism was concentrated at the grassroots level.  We sponsor and stimulate research and educational programs relevant to the Louisville community on social movements, citizen participation, public policy reforms, and social, racial, gender and economic justice.  Check out our reading room Ekstrom Library Room 258!

Cultural Center

The UofL Cultural Center is a place where all students can feel welcomed and valued, and where they are invited to explore their unique cultures and that of others in a congenial environment.

One of the five critical areas of the University of Louisville’s 2020 Plan is Diversity, Opportunity, and Social Justice. U of L is committed to creating a challenging intellectual climate enhanced by our many human differences, and this serves as the foundational objective of the programs and services provided by the Cultural Center.

More specifically, the Cultural Center creates educational opportunities for members of the university community to critically think about their beliefs, values and assumptions as it relates to culture. To fulfill our mission, we support and offer co-curricular and extra-curricular programs that acknowledge and reflect the experiences of under-represented populations. We also provide educational opportunities for all members of the campus community to examine their individual and group experiences within a culturally diverse society.

The underlying goals of these two endeavors are to provide advocacy for our students, celebrate the diverse cultures of the campus community, engage students in social justice issues, and support the scholarship and retention of U of L students.

First Year Initiatives

The mission of the Office of First Year Initiatives is to promote new student engagement and success at UofL by providing enriching curricular and co-curricular opportunities that help students develop fundamental skills, knowledge, and personal connections essential from their first year through graduation. To fulfill this mission, FYI programs are intentionally designed with a holistic approach, focusing on four main areas in which we expect students to grow, develop, and be successful: Civic, Academic, Personal, and Social (CAPS). FYI staff coordinate many programs and initiatives, including Welcome Week, Book-in-Common, STOMP, and the CAPS Leader Summer Mentor program. For more information, see the FYI website at http://louisville.edu/firstyear.

Campus Health Promotion

The mission of the Office of Health Promotion is to promote the vitality, health and academic excellence of the University of Louisville campus community through accurate and non-judgmental health programming, advocacy, and peer mentorship. We are working to build a campus community that values health by increasing access to healthy options and encouraging critical thinking about health decisions.
