The Group will provide relevant and research based initiatives that advance the education practices for reaching African American male

 

                        (2) Countering the New Tuskegee and Defamiliarization Sarcoma

In context of a family reunion; taking the best from the past while leaving behind the hindrances and pedagogy of the oppressed---as assessment, evaluation and a treatment plan for physical, mental, and spiritual recovery is offered.

(1) The Disproportionate Attack of HIV/AIDS on African Americans:                              A Call to Action

 The call to action about this epidemic of HIV/AIDS is more critical given that if not taken seriously it becomes a life-to-death issue!

 

                        (2) What Happened to the Village?

                        Aleshia Alston, West Orange, New Jersey

This interactive Workshop is designed to identify the benefits of a communal approach to raising children and how family members can become mentors.

(1)Historical Context of the Achievement Gap and Tools for the Future!          

Dr. Erica Lawrence, Louisville, Kentucky

This session will present current research regarding the connection between word knowledge and reading achievement to pre-literacy skills and early reading milestones.’

 

(2)The Straight –A Report Card Formula

                        Dr. Nicoline Ambe, Compton, California

This session will examine “self-motivation” as a key component in helping African American students attain educational excellence and bridge the gap.

(1) Challenging Ideological Paradigms That Undermine the Education of African American Youth

            Dr. Vincent Harper, Evansville, Indiana

This session will look closely at Ideological beliefs, assumptions & implications and provide Christian principals that can empower participants to challenge longstanding deficit beliefs.

 

                        (2) Strategies to Help Students Achieve their Dreams

Dr. Kimberly Ann Mucker-Johnson, Louisville, Kentucky 

This session will present strategies for adults to use to help students survive through difficult experiences and still attain their dreams.
