Welcome our new 2020-21 Faculty Fellows

We at Anne Braden Institute are excited to welcome 2 new faculty fellows who are joining us for the remainder of this academic year and for 2020-21.

Melanie Gast

Melanie Jones Gast

Melanie Jones Gast is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on racism and classism and the structuring of support in schools and community programs serving diverse racial and ethnic groups. Recent projects examine intersections of race, citizenship, and language statuses, immigrant claims-making, and the inclusion of immigrant youth and parents in school and community programs and organizations.

Mary Sheridan

Mary P. Sheridan

Mary P. Sheridan is Professor of English whose work addresses structural inequities through local action. Focusing at the intersection of digital composing, community engagement, and feminist methodologies, Mary P has designed and implemented an annual digital media camps for girls from low performing public schools and has published widely on recent grassroots activism and community engagement.

The fellows will use their time in residence at the ABI to pursue research projects that will deepen and expand our mission to bridge the gap between academic research and community activism for racial and social justice.
