Womb Justice: Dismantling Patriarchy through Reproductive and Climate Justice
Presentation
3:30-4pm I Room A
"Patriarchy, capitalism, and environmental destruction are deeply intertwined, creating conditions where marginalized communities—especially Black, Indigenous, and people of color—face disproportionate harm to their reproductive health and bodily autonomy. From environmental toxins impacting fertility to restricted access to reproductive healthcare, these injustices are not just individual crises, but systemic failures rooted in oppression.
This session will explore:
- How patriarchy and capitalism fuel environmental degradation and reproductive health disparities, particularly through industries that exploit land, labor, and bodies.
- The historical and ongoing impacts of environmental racism on reproductive justice, including forced sterilizations, medical neglect, and environmental pollution in marginalized communities.
- The role of collective care, activism, and traditional healing practices as radical resistance against these systems of oppression. Participants will be guided through interactive discussions, reflective journaling, and a womb-consciousness exercise to envision personal and collective paths toward healing and justice. This space will encourage not just learning, but active engagement in the dismantling of oppressive systems.
- Learning Objectives:
- Identify how patriarchy and environmental injustice intersect to oppress marginalized communities, particularly in reproductive health.
- Analyze historical and contemporary examples of systemic oppression in reproductive and climate justice.
- Engage in collective care and advocacy strategies as acts of resistance against patriarchal and capitalist systems."
