Dr. Brandy N. Kelly Pryor is a hope-enthusiast, an avid believer in radical imagination, and a scholar that builds with community. Her work spans locally, nationally, and internationally and focuses on the intersections of hope, health equity, policy, radical healing, and social impact. With studies in Global Public Health, the African Diaspora, Education Policy, and Youth Development, she has had a diversity of experiences that has led to recognition for her work around community engagement, health equity, and participatory and collaborative philanthropy. She has published pieces on topics from Disney princesses to food security to self-love and ecofeminism. In 2015, she was appointed as Louisville Metro’s Center for Health Equity (CHE) director; the first director jointly appointed with the University of Louisville’s School of Public Health and Information Sciences, where she continues to teach graduate classes. From 2018-2021 she led health equity research and strategy for The Humana Foundation, covering more than 22 different regions around the country. In 2021, in response to communities recognizing racial equity as critical to health equity, but not knowing where to start, she founded BKP Strategies, a full-scale health equity consulting agency. While taking breaks from the book she is writing about her 30,000-mile journey across the US, embodying the stories of her ancestral past and adolescent girls of today, you can find her on any given day tag teaming with her partner, Lyndon, as they chase around two children that are consistently seen running barefoot in the Kentucky grass.
