Hanna DeMarcus
Critical Language Scholarship
Senior Hanna DeMarcus has received a Critical Language Scholarship for two months of intensive study this summer at the KORA Russian Language Center in Vladimir, Russia. She will stay with a Russian host family and be paired with a native speaker to experience language immersion.
The Critical Language Scholarship is an overseas language and cultural immersion program for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarship aims to expand the number of U.S. citizens proficient in critical languages while building relationships between the people of the United States and other countries.
“After studying Russian language for three years, the Critical Language Scholarship is my next step to fluency. I plan to apply for graduate programs in Russian literature and by improving my language skills, hope to work with literary texts in their original language or even work in literary translations,” DeMarcus said.
