H.R. 748, The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, And Economic Security (Cares) Act, allocates significant funding for research related to SARS -CoV-2 coronavirus and the disease it causes,  COVID-19.  For a full listing of funding provisions under this act, please see the American Council on Education site.

  • National Science Foundation (NSF): $75 million to respond to the COVID-19
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA): $60 million to respond to COVID-19
  • Department of Energy (DOE): $99.5 million
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH): total $945 million between institutes
    • NHLBI: $103.4 million
    • NIAID: $706 million
    • NIBIB: $60 million
    • NLM: $10 million
    • NCTAS: $36 million
    • Office of the Director: $30 million

For cultural agencies:

  • National Endowment for the Arts (NEA): $75 million
  • National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): $75 million
  • Institute of Museum and Library Service
