Federal regulations and policies require that each institution using animals for research, education, and/or teaching establish an oversight body for the care of and research with animals. At the University of Louisville, the body is called the University Committee for Animal Welfare (UCAW). In general, the UCAW is an advisory committee to the Institutional Official (IO), which at UofL is the Vice President of Research & Innovation and is assigned the oversight for all animal care and research. The UCAW assumes responsibility for those functions given in:
