Federal regulations and policies require that each institution using animals for research, education, and/or teaching establish an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or comparable oversight body. At the University of Louisville, the body is called the University Committee for Animal Welfare (UCAW. ). In general, the UCAW is an advisory committee to the Institutional Official (IO), which at UofL is the Vice President of Research & Innovation and is assigned the oversight for all animal care and use. - Animal Welfare Act (Pub. L. 89-544) and all Animal Care Regulations contained in Title 9, Subchapter A
