Abstract:In science, there are many stages of learning something new about the universe, but the final stage is always communication. In order to publish in a peer-reviewed journal, there are a very specific set of guidelines - from the layout of the page, to the way that we display results, to the type of language that is desired, down to the spelling. Departing from that format means learning new genres of writing, and my favorites have been in learning to tell stories from scientific results. I will talk about my path to writing for a general audience, and the way I approach storytelling for a technical subject.
