Research Opportunities
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Louisville has a strong record of involving undergraduate students in research. The students have the opportunity to conduct research in observational astronomy, planetary science, experimental and theoretical nanoscience, condensed matter physics and high energy physics. Several faculty members in the Department of Physics and Astronomy have active extramural grants from NSF, NIH, NASA, DoE, and Research Corporation. The sponsors of these grants encourage undergraduates to participate in research. Students are encouraged to contact faculty members with active extramural grants for research participation experience. Students may receive summer stipends for their research participation. The amount of the stipend may vary from one agency to another. Finally, we have recently received an endowment that will award a student submitting the best paper in Astronomy with the W.M. Bullitt Memorial award.
