Peer Mentor Bios 

Tarrylton Dunn

Tarrylton Dunn HeadshotTarrylton Dunn is a senior saxophonist from Mount Vernon, Kentucky, in his second year as a peer mentor studying music education. He has most recently served as drum major of the Cardinal Marching Band for two years and is an active member of UofL’s National Association for Music Education chapter. While not practicing his saxophone, Tarrylton likes to cook, fish, hang out with friends, and read his Bible. He also has an extremely handsome and affectionate cat named Mochi (with numerous nicknames). 

 

 

 


Matthew Hargitt

Matthew Hargitt HeadshotMatthew Hargitt is a passionate percussionist and senior student in the School of Music, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialization in Music General, set to be completed in the Spring of 2024. Hailing from central Kentucky, Matthew graduated from Burgin Independent School in Burgin, KY. Throughout his time at the University of Louisville, Matthew was an active member of the Cardinal Marching Band, where he proudly served as the section leader of the drumline during his final season with the CMB.

Beyond his musical pursuits, Matthew cherishes his role as a devoted father to his daughter, Parker, and finds joy in sharing a fulfilling life with his partner, Beverly. Alongside his commitment to music, Matthew excels as a restaurant professional, currently serving as a Fine Dining Captain at Jeff Ruby’s Culinary Entertainment.

 

Maddy Oser

Maddy Oser HeadshotMaddy Oser is a junior studying music therapy with a minor in psychology. She is from Huntingburg, Indiana and graduated from Forest Park High School. Maddy is a percussionist who also enjoys being a member of the Women's Choir. Passionate about music therapy, she believes that everyone deserves kindness and hopes to use her musicianship skills to help others achieve their goals. During downtime, Maddy enjoys soaking up the sun, working on a new hobby, and spending time with friends.

 

 

 

 

 

Kaitlyn Purcell

Kaitlyn Purcell HeadshotKaitlyn Purcell (she/her) is a senior double major in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. Kaitlyn studies saxophone under Dr. Adam McCord, as well as clarinet under Dr. Matthew Nelson. She has been participated in ensembles including Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Saxophone Ensemble, and the Cardinal Marching Band. Kaitlyn engages and holds leadership positions within many student-led organizations: President of Delta Omicron, President of National Association for Music Education, and a Peer Mentor. Outside of school, Kaitlyn enjoys hanging out with friends, playing board games, and adoring cute animals. 

 

 

 

 

Sophia Waldschmidt

Sophia Waldschmidt HeadshotSophia Waldschmidt is a junior bassist from Owensboro, KY studying music education. Sophia participates in the UofL Symphony Orchestra as well as being a member of the UofL student chapter for the American String Teachers Association. Outside of the School of Music, Sophia enjoys cooking for her friends, shopping, and movie nights.

 

 

 

 

 

Adam Wilson

Adam Wilson HeadshotAdam Wilson is a senior Music Education major from southeastern Kentucky, and this will be his second year as a Peer Mentor. He is a trumpet student of Dr. Reese Land and has been a part of many ensembles within the School of Music, such as the Cardinal Marching Band, Cardinal Pep Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, and Backyard Brass Quintet. Adam has consistently been on the Dean’s List and has also been a Dean’s Scholar for the School of Music. He previously served as the treasurer for the University of Louisville Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education and now serves as the secretary. Over the summer, Adam worked for the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts as a Discipline Assistant in Instrumental Music and has previously been on band camp staff at Southwestern High School in Somerset, Kentucky. After graduation, Adam plans to teach for a few years before returning to school to receive his Master’s in Music Education.
