2020 Jazz Fest Press Release

The University of Louisville School of Music will sponsor Jazz Fest 2020from Feb. 20-22 on the Belknap campus of the University of Louisville.  This three-day celebration of America's indigenous musical art form is being presented by the Jazz Studies Program of the U ofL School of Music.  Featured throughout the week will be concerts, clinics, lectures, and workshops with members of the U of L Jazz Faculty, U of L students, and area high school and college students, as well as guest artists.

Jazz Fest, the region's premier jazz educational and performance event, will present a diverse program with international, national, and regional jazz talent.  Featured artists include – Trombonist and composer Tom Garling and pianist Aaron Goldberg; guest adjudicators Don Aliquo (saxophone), Bob Lark (trumpet), David Nearpass (trombone), and Ryan McGillicuddy (bass), as well as our own UofL Jazz Ensembles.

This event is a part of U of L's celebration of diversity, and it appropriately occurs during the month of February when the contributions of African-Americans to American culture and history are celebrated.  The musical art of jazz is recognized as having evolved out of the culture of African-Americans near the turn of the century.  Nightly concerts will be held at the School of Music beginning at 8:00 PM Thursday through 8:00 PM Saturday.  Visiting student groups will perform throughout the day on Friday and Saturday.  Jazz Fest 2020 will open at 8:00 PM on Thursday evening with the U ofL Repertory Ensembles, continue on Friday at 8:00 PM with Tom Garling with U ofL Jazz Ensemble I, and close with a concert by Aaron Goldberg with the faculty jazz rhythm section and the Invitational Honor Jazz Band directed by Gabe Evens with guest artist Jamey Aebersold on Saturday at 8:00 PM.  Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $5 for students with ID for the Friday and Saturday concerts and $10 for adults and $5 for students for the Thursday concert.
