The Gowning Room is the entry point into the cleanroom where users put on a bunny suit that looks like a large white jump suit. The reason for the bunny suit is that the human body is constantly creating new particles from the skin and hair. These particles are large enough to harm the small designs we are trying to create. The purpose of the bunny suit is to help keep particles from floating away from the body and clothing that could contaminate devices that are fabricated in the cleanroom. Once the clients are fully gowned up they can proceed into the cleanroom.
Although, there are many dangerous chemicals in the cleanroom bunny suits will not protect a person using those chemicals. Additional Personal Protection Equipment or PPE is worn while handling dangerous chemicals.
In the window are several circular wafers of different diameters. These wafers are thin slices of silicon which is a semiconductor and is used to make computer chips, solar cells and sensors. The wafer will undergo many processes that include depositing different materials on the surface, etching away materials to create a design and high temperatures. One wafer can hold many devices that are separated by dicing and then packaged into individual devices. In our cleanroom we use silicon and glass for many applications.
