Weisskopf Child Evaluation Center is the only pediatric tertiary diagnostic center for developmental delay in the state of Kentucky. An ineffective triage system led to long wait times and poor access to care for pediatric patients. 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX) is an operational business model designed to help businesses increase efficiency and achieve important goals. It has been applied in a variety of settings but has lacked application in healthcare. Our research sought to analyze the impact on wait times and collected revenues of 4DX implementation at Wisskopf Child Evaluation Center.
Our financial analysis compared fiscal years' 2014 (pre-implementation) and 2015 (post-implementation) collected revenues and patients' visits. After 4DX implementation, 77% of patients under 6 years of age were seen in under 3 months, compared to 5% previously. The financial impact of this increase in patient visits was on overall increase in collected revenue of $313,489 and an increase in 11.9% of patient visits.
