Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery section features renowned surgeons who not only practice but have been responsible for educating many of the oral and maxillofacial surgeons in this region as well as surgeons throughout the nation.

They offer a complete spectrum of both routine and special care from removal of teeth under general anesthesia, placement of dental implants, repair of facial and jawbone fractures and surgery of facial and jaw deformities to complex tumor ablation, jaw and TMJ reconstruction.

The OMS section provides facial trauma coverage for the level 1 trauma centers for adults (University of Louisville Hospital) and children (Norton Children's Hospital).

The most complex facial injuries in this region are treated at these facilities by UofL surgeons.

Drs. George Kushner and Robert Flint are the "go to" surgeons for complex diagnostic and therapeutic problems in this area of the country. Indeed, over 70% of their referrals for care come from other oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

The facility and professional staff in the Faculty Practice Suite are state of the art featuring the latest "cutting edge" equipment for surgery under advanced forms of pain and anxiety control including general anesthesia and IV sedation.

A unique feature of this practice is the ability to offer both surgical and restorative aspects of complex dental/implant rehabilitation with multiple specialists being involved in the same facility during the same procedure, an obvious advantage when sophisticated multidisciplinary care is required.

The surgeons utilize University of Louisville Hospital, Jewish Hospital and Norton Children's Hospital as well as the HCOC building for inpatient and outpatient surgical care. Many of the commercial dental insurance plans are accepted.  Medical insurance plans accepted are Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare. Other medical plans require out of network benefits or a referral waiver based on treatment which is unavailable elsewhere.
