Professor Mary Carothers' class present work to a panel of outside reviewers
Students from Professor Mary Carothers' Advanced Photography class Rachid Tagoulla, Francis Dumstorf, Taylor Hayes and Cassidy Meuerer presented their work in progress to a panel of outside reviewers including Laura Hartford, Photography Head and Assistant Dean at Bellarmine University; Mary Yates, Chair of Digital Media, The Arts Institutes; Rachel Waters, Rachel Waters Inc. and Marcy Werner, Specialist and Manager of the University of Louisville Photographic Archive.

Professor Meena Khalili awarded Research & Creative Activities Grant
Professor Meena Khalili has been awarded a Research & Creative Activities Grant from UofL College of Arts and Sciences to continue her research on type and technology. Thanks to the support from the College of Arts & Sciences and the University of Louisville.
Professor Chris Reitz wins A&S Distinguished Faculty Award for Service
Congratulations to Professor Chris Reitz for winning the Arts and Sciences Distinguished Faculty Award for Service to the Community!
Dr. Reitz has been recognized for his contributions to the artistic and creative life of Louisville, including his work on the Louisville Commission on Public Art, the commission on Louisville’s public monuments, and his ongoing exhibition programming and community outreach. Dr. Reitz has also worked with local institutions on their arts programming, including advising the Louisville Airport on the commission of a new large-scale sculptural work and the ongoing development of an airport arts program. He has also partnered with Louisville Visual Art to continue to develop Louisville’s Open Studio Weekend event, and, recently, to consult with the Louisville Ballet. Dr. Reitz has been an invited juror for local and regional arts awards programs as well, including Art Prize Pitch Night and Louisville’s Fund for the Arts.

Louisville Metro Public Art and Monuments Advisory Committee open forum
The Louisville Metro Public Art and Monuments Advisory Committee — which includes UofL members Dewey Clayton (UofL Political Science), Chris Reitz (Hite Art Institute, University of Louisville), and Tom Owen (Ekstrom Library, University of Louisville) — will meet on UofL’s campus this Thursday, April 12 in Davidson Hall, Room 111, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. This meeting is an opportunity for the University of Louisville campus, particularly the students, to let the committee know their thoughts and concerns about the public art and monuments around the city.

Michael Nichols conducts demonstration and workshop on buon fresco
Buon fresco is the art of painting into wet plaster - most famously used in the Sistine Chapel's ceiling by Michelangelo. Saturday, April 7, Professor of Art at WKU, Michael Nichols, will conduct a demonstration and workshop with U of L Advanced Painting students. U of L faculty, students and staff are invited to stop in to Schneider Hall 113 at any time during the day to learn about and observe the process.

Eileen Yanoviak appointed Director of the Carnegie Center for Art and History
Eileen Yanoviak (Ph.D. Art History, 2017) has been appointed as the new Director of the Carnegie Center for Art and History, a department of the New Albany-Floyd County Library in Indiana. Yanoviak will succeed long-time director Sally Newkirk upon her retirement in April.
The Carnegie Center for Art and History is an important cultural resource in the area that promotes the visual arts and presents, collects, and preserves regional history. Among its signature programs are the Public Art Project series and the exhibition "Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad."
