Housing and Residence Life employs over 150 students each year. The focus for many positions with Housing is on leadership and the enhancement of education. To apply for available positions, please come by the Housing Office to fill out an application. Positions include:
Desk Assistant 
The role of the desk assistant is to assist in maintaining security in the residence halls and apartments. Duties include: maintain security, admit students to the hall, report and respond to emergency situations, lead with confidence, enforce policy, serve our customers. $6.50/hour up to 25 hrs/week
Facility Assistant
Staff in this position is responsible for providing support to Housing and Residence Life by assisting with building and room inspection, preparation, and maintenance. Responsibilities include: movement of bedroom, lounge and public area furniture, minor furniture repair, light bulb replacement, storage room supply inventory and maintenance. Additional duties include the physical inspection of facilities and inventory of department property. To be successful in this position, employees must perform assigned tasks according to given completion schedules. The enjoyment of working as a team must also be evident in each employee as this position is a central component to the facilities function of Housing and Residence Life. $7.25 hr
First Year Guides
The First-Year Guide is an upper-class mentor assigned to assist first year students with transition to college during the first eight weeks of school. First Year Guides serve as a role model, resource, and university ambassador within the Housing and Residence Life support network. Individual attention is given regarding academic success, campus involvement, community building, living with a roommate, etc. First-Year Guides maintain a high level of communication and interaction with students in the residence halls and at campus activities. - Learn about the needs of first-year students and how important
addressing those needs is to a student's successful transition to
college life. - Learn the importance of creating social networks and working together
as a team. - Develop the skills to empower others through involvement.
- Learn to bring people together in a community that recognizes
individual differences and talents. - Gain knowledge of university and community resources.
- Develop an understanding of the responsibilities associated with a job
commitment. - Gain experience working with a diverse student population.
- Develop and enhance interpersonal and communication skills.
- Develop specialized skills necessary to provide quality customer
service.
Residential Area Technology Specialists
Troubleshoot resident internet connections, cable, and phone lines. Help with repairing damage from viruses. Create and run programs covering basic computer maintenance to moding your system. 20 hrs/week at $6.90. Skills learned in this position are:
- Problem solving.
- Communication skills.
- Project management skills.
- Knowledge of Windows based software.
Resident Assistants
Work on assigned floors in the residence halls. Responsibilities include: Helping and advising students individually and in groups. Providing initiative and leadership in developing opportunities for the intellectual, cultural, and social growth of residents. Assisting in the administration of the residence hall. Supporting and implementing policies. 13.25 hours at $6.90 hr. Skills learned in this position are:

- Learn the importance of ethical leadership.
- Learn the importance of creating social networks and working as a team.

Resident Director
Resident directors directly supervise and coordinate the work of resident assistants and desk-workers as well as indirectly supervise full-time security staff assigned to their residence halls. The resident director is required to take an active and supportive interest in the residents of her/his building and on campus. She/he should be available to students as the need arises. The skills learned in this position are:

- Enhance leadership skills through structured and on-the-job experiences.

- Provide opportunities for applying knowledge learned in the classroom.
