Smoke-Free UofL

UofL to go smoke-free Nov. 18, 2010

The University of Louisville Belknap and Shelby Campuses will officially become smoke-free Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010. At that time, all smoking areas will be removed, and smoking will not be permitted throughout the campuses.

UofL announced that it would begin to go smoke free on Nov. 19, 2009. The policy implementation will coincide with the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout, held annually on the third Thursday in November. The Health Sciences Center campus has been smoke free since 2004.

Beginning last November, smoking on the Belknap and Shelbyhurst campuses has been limited to designated smoking areas. People who choose to smoke on sidewalks along city streets must be at least 50 feet from entrances to university buildings. Smoking is not allowed anywhere at the Health Sciences Center.

The university provides a variety of tools to help our faculty, staff and students quit smoking. These include: Students: Campus Health
