Lashawn Ford
2015 Fulbright Scholar
UofL senior Lashawn Ford has earned a Fulbright Study/Research grant to England. She will pursue a master’s degree in criminology at the University of Kent in Canterbury and will study the high incarceration rate of U.S. juveniles by exploring how England handles the issue.
The U.S. Student Fulbright Program, a federally sponsored international, educational and cultural exchange, recognizes academic merit and leadership potential. The program promotes mutual understanding between U.S. residents and people in more than 155 countries worldwide. Fulbrights are among the most prestigious awards in higher education.
“Coming from a background where going to college did not seem possible, this award is a symbol to me, my family and other people who are disadvantaged that it is possible to achieve what seems to be the impossible,” said Ford.
