HIPAA Privacy training is available for workforce members of the health care component of the University of Louisville hybrid entity. In addition, each area where our workforce members are assigned may provide HIPAA-specific policy and procedure training based upon the workforce member's role.
The HIPAA general awareness courses, available through the CITI system, are described below:
These courses provide an introduction to the Privacy Rule requirements and how they may impact faculty, staff, students, and other personnel who work with protected health information at the University of Louisville.
There are six HIPAA Privacy courses. The content varies slightly and is based on the individual’s role. Only one course is required although additional courses can be taken if desired.

Human Subjects & HIPAA Research
This course includes training regarding basic institutional review board (IRB) regulations and review process, informed consent, research involving specific groups of individuals, ethics, privacy and confidentiality, and conflicts of interest. This course includes HIPAA Security training. Elective and optional modules are also included.
This course is included in a CITI course titled “Institutional Compliance - UofL General Population.” It provides an introduction to the Security Rule requirements and how they may impact faculty, staff, students, and other personnel who work with electronic protected health information at UofL.
