Modern Apprenticeship Pathways to Success (MAPS) Program
The University of Louisville was selected as one of 28 public-private partnerships across the nation to receive the U.S. Department of Labor's "Apprenticeship: Closing the Skills Gap," competitive grant. The University of Louisville’s program is called the Modern Apprenticeship Pathways to Success or “MAPS”. It is designed to advance the economic well-being and global competitiveness of the regional workforce via expansion of apprenticeships for University of Louisville students - especially transitioning service members, veterans, and dependents - in three critical, H1-B industries: healthcare, manufacturing and information technology.
The program also involves regional community colleges and the Manufacturing Institute as sub-awardees, and it engages the workforce ecosystem in this region, including Louisville Forward, KentuckianaWorks, KY Workforce and Education Cabinet, KY Commission on Military Affairs, Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, and many more partners seeking to elevate the workforce, particularly for transitioning service members, veterans, and dependents.
Working in close partnership with regional community colleges, community stakeholders and employers, the University of Louisville MAPS program will:
- Develop 49 current educational pathways into federally recognized registered assistantship programs (RAPs)
- Enroll and support approximately 5,300 students between 2020 and 2024 in these RAPs, targeting military service members, veterans, their dependents, (and other underrepresented minorities).
- Improve completion rates among those who enroll in an apprenticeship program.
- Produce competency frameworks for establishing registered apprenticeship programs.

The Cybersecurity Certifications, Careers and Communities (C4) Project
This project award is a Department of Defense capacity-building grant in partnership with the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs to develop research-based cybersecurity certification and degree programs, while continuing efforts in workforce development for transitioning service members, veterans and their dependents.
Through this grant, the Department of Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development is:
-Creating cybersecurity education-to-defense industry employment pathways that account for and capitalize on the military Family and the diverse Kentucky workforce.
-Implementing a cyber-studies credentialing curriculum that harnesses UofL’s unique academic environment to deliver quality instruction that exceeds the defense industry standard.
-Championing an equitable cybersecurity community education ecosystem in Kentucky that is both sustainable and scalable.

U.S. Army Cadet Command, Master Educator Course (MEC)
MEC is a collaboration between the University of Louisville's College of Education &
Human Development and U.S. Army Cadet Command, to provide graduate level education for ARMY ROTC cadre in:
– Pedagogy and Instructional Strategies
– Learning Sciences and Facilitation of Learning
– Curriculum Development
– Effects of College on Students
– Organizational Analysis in Higher Education
This Department of the Army funded grant allows attendees to earn 18 graduate credit hours towards a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration (M.A. HEA).

U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention College
The University of Louisville's College of Education & Human Development, is one of nine institutions who collaborates with the U.S. Army’s Recruiting and Retention College (RRC), designed to support soldiers with degree options. This is not an articulation agreement. It is a closed cohort program administered by RRC, including choosing attendees. For further information contact RRC.

- A Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Learning
- A Master of Science in Human Resources and Organizational Development
McConnell Center’s Strategic Broadening Seminar (SBS)
SBS has been designed by the University of Louisville’s McConnell Center, the Department of the Army and the US Army Human Resources Command as a 30-day, graduate-level intellectual experience to help meet the calls from Army leadership to create broader, educated and more flexible Army leaders to face new and dynamic challenges in the 21st century.
The University of Louisville is one of six institutions in the U.S. chosen to host this prestigious program. Once a year, for 30-days, 35 soldiers and Department of the Army civilians attend the seminar, where the emphasis is on “broadening” the participants’ engagement with leadership, strategic thinking and contemporary world events related to Russia and the Asia Pacific region

U.S. Army War College Fellowship
The U.S. Army War College Fellow is hosted by the McConnell Center. The University of Louisville is one of only three institutions in the mid-west, with Notre Dame and Northwestern, to host a prestigious Army War College Fellow each year. The Army War College Fellow program allows Army leaders to spend a year conducting research and outreach while auditing classes to sharpen their leadership skills and broaden their outlook as strategic thinkers. There are fellows in leading U.S. universities, U.S. government departments and government-funded agencies, think tanks and industry.

College of Business Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship, VetStart Program
Through very generous sponsorship by Toyota, the Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship, offers a free 10-week entrepreneurship training program for veterans from, or transitioning to Kentucky.
During the 10-week training, veterans will learn to validate their ideas, develop a strategy for implementing their vision and build a network of mentors to assist with the process. At the conclusion of the program, attendees are eligible for up to $1,000 of approved reimbursable business receipts related to the business started or developed in this program.
Kent School of Social Work
The Kent School of Social Work has Memorandums of Agreement with multiple military installations, for Social Work students to obtain practical learning and clinical experiences. The installations include:
