Prize Winners 2013

The 2013 International Horn Competition of America had a total of 71 competitors, 54 in the University Division and 17 in the Professional Division. The hornists came from 21 states of the US and 10 countries (Australia, Canada, China, Columbia, England, Mexico, S. Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, and the USA).

Announcing the Prize Winners of the 2013 International Horn Competition of America, Professional Division:

First Prize, $2,500 – Haley Hoops (Othmar Schoeck concerto)

Second Prize, $1,000 – Mary Beth Orr (Glière concerto)

Certificate of Honor – Dylan Hart (Strauss 2nd concerto)

 

First Prize also included a mute by Ion Balu [http://www.ionbalu.com].

All three awardees received a mug from Radu Rusu; a solo CD recorded by Steve Gross and Dale Clevenger on Summit Records [http://www.summitrecords.com]; and a GigBag, a carrier for mutes and accessories, from Julie Gross [http://www.fhgigbag.com].

First Prize, $500 – Lauren Hunt (Strauss 2nd concerto)

Second Prize, $250 – Ryan Little (Strauss 1st concerto)

Certificate of Honor – Ernesto Tovar Torres (Glière concerto)

 

First Prize also included a Marcus Bonna case from Just for Brass [http://www.justforbrass.com], and a mute by Ion Balu [http://www.ionbalu.com].

At the 2013 International Horn Competition of America, the $500 Gretchen Snedeker Award for the best performance of Lament by Tim Martin went to Ryan Little. Funds for this prize were donated by Peter Kurau.

A special Certificate of Honor and $100 went to Ali Nizamani for his superb performance of Lament by Tim Martin. He also received 2 solo CDs recorded by Steve Gross and Dale Clevenger on Summit Records; and a GigBag, a carrier for mutes and accessories, from Julie Gross.
