Background

Dean Morton is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Oral Health and Rehabilitation at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He is, in addition, Director of the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics and is Chairman of the USA Section of the IT I.

Dr. Morton completed his dental training at the University of Sydney, and his Certificate in Prosthodontics and Master of Science degree at the University of Iowa. In 1995 he joined the faculty at the University of Florida as Director of Advanced Education in Prosthodontics, before founding with collaborators the UF Center for Implant Dentistry in 1999.

Dr. Morton is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, the International College of Dentists, and the International Team for Implantology (ITI). He is a member of many organizations including the International Association for Dental Research, the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, and the Academy of Osseointegration. He serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, and is a reviewer for several other professional publications. Dr. Morton has authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles and abstracts, and was the primary author of the ITI Treatment Guide, Vol. 2, Loading Protocols in Implant Dentistry. He lectures extensively both nationally and internationally on implants and esthetic dentistry, and maintains a practice limited to Implant and Esthetic Dentistry and Prosthodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.

Research Interests and Current Projects
Dr. Morton’s primary research focus is dental implant loading protocols and dental materials related to dental implants. He remains active in clinical research evaluating loading protocols for dental implants, and implants with various morphologies.

Teaching Activities
Dr. Morton is responsible for the preclinical didactic and laboratory implant dentistry program for the predoctoral students. He also oversees the Oral Health and Rehabilitation Clinic, where dental students and residents treat advanced and complex patients. Dr. Morton teaches both didactic and clinical Esthetic Dentistry to predoctoral students, in addition to advanced treatment and planning options. Dr. Morton is responsible for the Advanced Implantology program given annually to students in the residency programs. In addition he lectures extensively to dental and specialty groups.
