The Department of Sociology stands in support of and solidarity with members of AAPI community
In response to ongoing incidents of anti-Asian violence across the United States, as well as the often neglected and long-standing history of injustice targeting Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI):
The Department of Sociology at the University of Louisville stands in support of and solidarity with members of the AAPI community. We mourn those killed, injured, and otherwise harmed by these hateful acts. We especially acknowledge the gendered nature of many of these attacks, supported by both spoken and unspoken stereotypes of AAPI women.
We recognize the ongoing need to address the harmful effects of white supremacy and racism both in the larger community and at the University of Louisville and we affirm that AAPI students, staff, and faculty are essential and valued members of our campus community. As a Department, we vow to continue to educate ourselves and others about the harmful effects of systemic racism, and to use an anti-racist lens as we advance diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus and beyond. We call upon our campus and the Louisville community to engage in similar activities to support the Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander community.
