Abstract: The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) listens for gravitational waves, ripples in the curvature of space-time itself by an accelerating mass. Gravitational waves directly inform how and how often black holes and neutron stars merge. Understanding gravitational waves is one of the keys to understanding what stars and the Universe itself are made of.
