Falling Garden Series

"The hearings tintinnabulate silvery," (3.6x5.6)

"Strum the gill-lyre," (3.6x5.6)

"Spume from the void," (3.6x5.6)

These poem collages were created to sing with the artwork entitled Falling Garden by Gerda Steiner and Jorg Lenzlinger, while also establishing their own worlds. The poems were crafted in such a way as to surprise the reader with a lyric—a bit jagged but always surprising, even attempting for the revelatory. The materials that are the foundation of the pieces are vintage postcards, the blank sides of which I convert into multicolored abstract paintings. This remakes the postcards into little universes out of which the poems might be divined and surface. The text floats in this space, adorned with other images and ornaments that may or may not offer a nod to the original Falling Garden. Each poem collage, while drawing inspiration from another work, stands alone in its colorful space, turning text into something corporeal. Thanks to these pieces, I have a radically new perspective on how poetry can be relayed to the reading world.

LINDSEY WARREN received her MFA from Cornell University, and her three collections were published by Spuyten Duyvil. She has had poem collages published in Fugue, Wild Roof Journal, Fugue, and Action, Spectacle, and her Substack "Wilmington Is a Poem" chronicles her city-wide poem collage project. Lindsey lives in Arden, Delaware.
