Biography

I grew up in Bardstown, KY and I moved to Louisville to attend University of Louisville for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I obtained a B.S. in Elementary Education and then a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education. Since an M.Ed. is my highest level of education, I am plain old "Betty," not Dr. Doyle, and all of my students (and many others) refer to me as Ms. Betty in the spirit of early childhood education. Before coming returning to U of L as an employee, I was a first grade teacher in Meade County. I started at U of L as a research assistant in 1993, working on the grant that eventually lead to the B-5 teacher certification in Kentucky. I worked as a research assistant on various grants for several years, before becoming a full-time faculty member in the ECEE in 2003.

I love teaching, animals—cats in particular, and flower gardening. Really, anything involving nature is of interest to me! In my role as a faculty member in ECEE, I am focused on teaching and clinical practice, research is not a part of what I do. My clinical interest and passion is about creating safe and inviting learning environments for all students, particularly in early childhood education. I have recently taught the following courses: EDTP 201 (The Teaching Profession), EDTP 477 (Capstone Seminar for Student Teaching), and EDTP 532 (Advanced Curriculum Methods in IECE). During the fall semester, I also supervise more than 25 students who are doing clinical field work in early childhood classrooms for EDTP 440/641 (Content Methods in IECE). I am also a KTIP Teacher Educator and I currently have five interns through that program. Finally, I am a member of several department and college-wide committees.
