Incorporating Active Learning across the Disciplines
In this interactive session, you will learn about various active learning teaching methods including discussion, role-play, experiential learning, debate, and simulation. In a series of mini-teaching workshops, you will have the opportunity to identify the steps to implement each active learning technique in your classroom, discuss how each method could be implemented in your discipline-specific classroom, and practice that method with your peers. In this supportive session, you will have the opportunity to create and present a mini-lesson of an active learning technique, which give you an opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback from your peers.
As a result of attending this session, you will be able to:
- Describe different active learning teaching methods;
- Identify the process for implementing an active learning technique in your classroom;
- Discuss the appropriate content and learning contexts for using active learning techniques; and
- Practice active learning teaching methods using content that is relevant to your discipline.
