Ted Smith and Envirome Institute help shape vision for a healthier Ohio River basin
Ted Smith, director of the Center for Healthy Air, Water and Soil and associate director of the CIEHS CEC, has been featured in several news outlets for his leadership in the development of a major new plan to restore and protect the Ohio River Basin, home to over 30 million people. The draft report, Healthy Waters, Healthy Communities, Healthy Economies, was released by the Envirome Institute in collaboration with the Ohio River Basin Alliance and the National Wildlife Federation. Smith emphasized the urgent need to address toxic pollution, failing infrastructure, and environmental threats that impact health across the region. Public comments on the plan are open through July 18, with community engagement events underway across the basin.
