UofL awarded funding from National Institutes of Health for environmental and health studies in Calvert City

October 8, 2025

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Institutes of Health recently awarded funding that will allow researchers from the University of Louisville, in collaboration with a number of local stakeholders, to assess environmental and human health in Calvert City beginning in late fall 2025.

Through this research project, the team will work to assess levels of air pollution in the area and explore potential relationships between those findings and the health status of volunteer residents over one year.

The UofL research team is deeply grateful for the partnership of the many community members who have shared their concerns. The goal for this rigorous scientific approach is to provide peace of mind and a continued focus on community well-being in Calvert City.

There will be numerous opportunities throughout the study for community members to provide input and feedback. The UofL team is committed to transparency in all of the project activities and will share all findings with the community.
