The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine accepts residency applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  

Materials needed are as follows:

  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Dean’s Letter
  • 3 additional letters of recommendation
  • USMLE scores

*International Medical Graduates must provide a valid ECFMG certificate. 

Positions Available

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Louisville will be offering approximately 10 PGY-1 (or categorical) positions through the MATCH.  This number will be confirmed at a later date.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Do you have a minimum USMLE score requirement?
    We do not have a strict cut-off on the USMLE.  However, please note that the most successful candidates typically have scores that are in the 85th percentile and above.
  2. Do you have a deadline for medical school graduation?
    No – there is no specific timeline that is required of applicants.  However, you must be able to document that you have graduated from medical school in order to start the program.
  3. Is US clinical experience required for International Medical Graduates?
    While clinical experience in the United States is not required, it will only serve to make a candidate’s application stronger.
  4. What kind of visa does the University of Louisville sponsor?
    The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, in accordance with the University of Louisville, will only sponsor the J-1 visa for residents and fellows seeking sponsorship.  No exceptions are made.
  5. What is the application deadline?
    The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine will be conducting interviews in October, November, December– with a rough application deadline of December 15th of the recruitment year.  

All applications will be reviewed by the Resident Selection Committee and invitations for interviews will be issued.  Upon receipt of an invitation, candidates must contact the Program Coordinator, to schedule an interview.
