Elizabeth L. Matera

Background and Interests

My background is primarily in the humanities and education.  I majored in Literature and then worked as a Special Education Teacher through the Teach For America (TFA) program in Helena, Arkansas, and as the Program Director for TFA in Arkansas and Mississippi.

I am now making the transition to a medical career, applying to begin medical school in 2007.  The Behavioral Oncology Lab is the perfect place to use skills that I have from my previous work and studies - writing, effective communication, assessment of skills - and at the same time learn more about healthcare, interact with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and build research skills that will enhance my medical education and practice.
