Peru 2016

Traveling in Peru

Peru is the destination of a group of 11 students and faculty at the College of Education, who will be traveling to the Andean country on July 1. The group is made out of 8 students mostly in the School Leadership and Elementary Education programs. They will be led by Dr. Angela Newcomb and Dr. Oscar Aliaga.

They will be primarily learning about the education system in Peru and issues related to school leadership and administration. For that purpose, they will attend lectures by Peruvian professionals and university professors, particularly at the Universidad del Pacífico. The elementary education students will spend their time collaborating with at the Colegio de la Inmaculada and the Colegio de Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Lima.

The group will also travel to Cusco, where in addition to visiting Machu Picchu and other archeological places of interest, they will work with a school in Cusco. A very important component of their visit is their visit to the Panticalle school, one of the few bilingual Quechua-Spanish schools in Southern Peru, in the Andes highlands.
