Undergraduate Scholarship Application Information

Application Procedure for Undergraduate Scholarships

Current BA and BFA Students

Current BA and BFA students who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.5 are eligible to apply for department funding. The scholarship application form is available in the Fine Arts Office (room 104, Schneider Hall) or you may request a copy via email. It should be carefully completed and returned with supporting materials by February 15th to:

Supporting Materials

  1. Completed Application Form.
  2. Current UofL Transcript (may be unofficial). [An unofficial transcript may be printed from the University's website at http://www.louisville.edu/student/services/registrar/services.html]
  3. Two recommendations from Department of Fine Arts faculty with whom you have studied. The student should email two faculty members to request recommendations. The faculty member will submit the recommendations directly to the Scholarship Committee. [Note: Please request faculty recommendations at least two weeks in advance.]
  4. A typewritten statement of intent describing your educational and career objectives in the arts.
  5. If applicable, attach a separate typewritten statement explaining any special financial need.


Transfer Students

Transfer students who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply for department funding. The scholarship application form is available in the Fine Arts Office (room 104, Schneider Hall) or you may request a copy via email. It should be carefully completed and returned with supporting materials by February 15th to:

Supporting Materials

  1. Completed Application Form (you must also complete an Application for Admission for a Major in Fine Art) (both forms are available from the Department).
  2. Transcripts from all other colleges attended (may be unofficial).
  3. Two letters of recommendations from previous instructor with whom you have studied. Letters should be sent directly to the Scholarship Committee by the instructor).
  4. A typewritten, one-page statement of intent describing your educational and career objectives in the arts.
  5. If applicable, attach a separate typewritten statement explaining any special financial need.


Incoming Freshmen

Entering freshmen who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 are eligible for departmental funding and must furnish the following:

  1. The scholarship application form for Incoming Freshman (you must also complete an Application for Admission for a Major in Fine Art) (both forms are available from the Department or you may request copies via email).
  2. An official transcript of all high school work completed.
  3. Three letters of recommendation from teachers or other school personnel. If you have studied art in high school, one of these letters should come from your art teacher.
  4. A typewritten, one-page statement of intent describing your educational and career objectives in the arts.

Supplemental Materials:

  1. Studio Art, Graphic Design or Interior Design applicants must submit a portfolio of 10 pieces of completed work. The portfolio must be jpeg on CD. Be sure to label your CD with your name.
  2. Art History applicants must submit a typed essay oriented toward art appreciation or critique, of at least 700 - 1,000 words in length. The essay should reflect not only the student's writing ability but also the ability to respond visually and analytically to one or more works of art. This is in addition to the above essay describing your educational and career objectives in the arts.
