DEADLINE: March 10, 2012 at 5pm EST We invite Kentucky and regional artists who are seeking guidance for careers in public art to apply for a Public Art Portfolio Review. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging and established artists seekingpublic art commissions to be given feedback on their portfolios by professionals in the field of public art. Each artist will have a 15-minute meeting with an experienced administrator, artist, or curator. One-on-one reviews will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Louisville (location tbd). Participants are invited to attend the Young Scholars session, also on Thursday evening, and the symposium to be held at the University of Louisville’s Chao Auditorium.

Event Gallery Talk by Professor John Whitesell (Schneider Hall Galleries, from Feb 16, 2014 02:00 PM to Feb 16, 2014 04:00 PM)
The Hite Art Institute presents a Gallery Talk by Professor John Whitesell about his current exhibition, In Retrospect: Four Decades, which is currently on view in Schneider Hall Galleries. Professor Whitesell will lead the discussion of his work, spanning forty years. He will be taking questions from any one attending the talk, including alumni, former students, collegues, and the general public. Professor Whitesell, head of the printmaking program, former Chair of Fine Arts and Director of the Hite Art Institute, is represented in more than twenty-five public collections including the Library of Congress. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham College and MFA from Indiana University. He also studied printmaking at Miami University of Ohio. Over the span of his career Whitesell has had several mentors including Marvin Lowe and Rudy Pozzatti at Indiana University, as well as Robert Wolfe at Miami University. He also received an Indiana Artist Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant. He has exhibited his prints throughout the United States and internationally in over 150 exhibitions. Images of his work have been published in several venues and online.

A wide range of student work will be on display in Schneider Hall Galleries for the 2014 Student Biennial Show at the University of Louisville. For this exhibition, faculty of the Hite Art Institute selected work by current students seeking undergraduate degrees in both BA and BFA degree programs. The Hite Art Institute offers a variety of courses in ten different studio areas. Fine Art students have the opportunity to work in any of the following programs while earning their degrees: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Printmaking, Fiber and Mixed Media, Glass, Sculpture, Communication Art and Design, and Interior Architecture. Many of these program areas will be represented in this exhibition, running through March 30, with an opening reception Thursday, March 6 starting at 5 p.m.

The Hite Art Institute Galleries presents Clearing, a two-person exhibition, featuring Stephen Cartwright and Ché Rhodes at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts. The exhibition runs March 21 - April 26 with an opening reception Friday, March 21. This exhibition is sponsored by the Sutherland Endowed Chair in Glass, which supports the enrichment of the Hite Art Institute’s Studio Glass program.

The Hite Art Institute is pleased to announce the opening of the Spring 2014 BFA Thesis Exhibition at Schneider Hall Galleries. The show will feature the artwork of Caitlin Davis, Katie Etheridge, John Hayden, Shadia Heenan, Alexa Helton, Kendall Herdelin, Ericka Jeffries, Emilee Linders, Tiffany Luette, Raegan Maddox, Tracy Norman, Alex O'Keefe, Meredith Raque and Lauren Adkins Smith. The exhibition will open with a reception and remarks on Thursday, April 10 from 5-7 p.m. Each BFA candidate will contribute their unique vision as represented by a concentrated body of work developed to demonstrate their readiness to enter the professional art world upon graduation.

The University of Louisville Hite Art Institute and The Louisville Visual Art Association (LVAA), present the second annual Open Studio Weekend. Open Studio Weekend provides a focused opportunity for art patrons and art lovers of all ages to visit nearly 100 local artist's studios. Much like a home and garden tour, this will be a ticketed event. A select group of nearly 100 of Louisville Metro's top artists will open their studios to the public on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14. Proceeds from the weekend will help fund $50,000 for scholarships to the Hite Art Institute's Mary Spencer Nay Scholarship and the LVAA's Children's Fine Art Classes (CFAC) Program.
